Awards Season 2012 officially kicked off Sunday, January 15 with one of the most spectacular Red Carpets I have seen in a long time. I’ve been thinking about who to name “Best Dressed” for almost 24 hours, and I just can’t pick one! I am going to declare a tie between Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron.

Ange-freaking-Lina. Like wow. In this stunning Atelier Versace, her body looked absolutely perfect. The red accents were what pushed this over the top into the Stratosphere of Amazing, though.

Charlize Theron somehow sounded even sexier with laryngitis. The sparkly headband and this couture blush Dior took her from A-list Dior spokesmodel to a little piece of Fashion Heaven on Earth.

I just can’t choose, and really, aren’t we glad we live in a world where we don’t have to choose? They are both out-of-this world gorgeous, and both brought her “A game” last night. They just owned the Red Carpet. But some other leading ladies looked fabulous as well, and they can all compete for Honorable Mention. Nude hues were a huge trend, and Red Carpet staples and newbies alike were dressed to impress.

Team Two: Surprisingly Stunning

I was blown away by Reese Witherspoon! She always looks adorable, but this scarlet Zac Posen was quite a sultry statement for the usually wholesome star. The sexy beachy waves complemented her amazing figure perfectly.

Another favorite lady in red was Emma Stone. She’s been a starlet to watch on the Red Carpet lately, and the Golden Globes gave her a great opportunity to show her fashion sense. She called her Lanvin gown “fuschia and purple”, and the plunging neckline looked fabulous on her.

Claire Danes always cleans up whenever she attends an awards show, winning raves on the Red Carpet and often a statuette or two as well. The Homeland winner definitely got it right with this black and white J Mendel stunner. She is the epitome of someone who knows what looks good on her- thin, column dresses that don’t need a bra, hair pulled off her face, and Hugh Dancy on her arm.

Team Three: The Trendy Neutral Tone

Jessica Alba rocked this beaded lilac Gucci. Score one for Brad Goreski, and score two for Jess for looking this hot just weeks after giving birth to her second baby.

Diane Lane looked phenomenal in this glittery gold Reem Acra. With her brunette hair and Josh Brolin nearby, she is looking better and better every Red Carpet I see her on lately.

Looks like she’s still The Body. Elle Macpherson was the envy of all women in this creamy Zac Posen show-stopper. Holy workout tomorrow.

Team Four: Jewel Tones Galore

Sofia Vergara’s custom Vera Wang hit all the right notes. The navy color, the mermaid cut, the peacock bottom and the sleek long hair all highlighted her numerous assets.

Tina Fey pleasantly surprised in this lovely fuschia Oscar de la Renta. See, Tina, you can look like a movie star and still be cool enough to photobomb Amy Poehler.

Paula Patton just looked like she brought her own sunshine. This vibrant yellow Monique Lhullier did wonders for her skin tone and body, and she seemed to be extremely giddy all night long.

We all know how much I love Michelle Williams. For the Globes, she chose a gorgeous navy hue. This long-sleeved Jason Woo is perfect for Michelle’s style. The headband was adorable as well- I can’t wait to see what she wears to the Oscars!

Team Five: Red Carpet Rock Stars

Debra Messing hasn’t hit a Red Carpet in a few years, but Rachel Zoe wasn’t left out of all the glamour. Grace Adler’s altar ego looks absolutely divine in her classic Monique Lhullier one-shoulder gown. The black color and the emerald earrings are perfect with her coloring.

Kate Winslet, always a favorite on the Red Carpet and the winner’s stage, looks stunningly gorgeous in this black and white Jenny Packham. She always chooses something classic that flatters her beautiful blonde hair and curvy shape.

But does anyone walk a Red Carpet like Nicole Kidman? She just deserves to be in a category all her own (in my opinion, she’s the only one who gave Angie or Charlize a run for her money!) This impeccably cut Versace fit her statuesque body perfectly, and the result is out-of-this-world exquisite.

Sorry I couldn’t cut it down AT ALL this time! I promise I’ll be more discerning with the Oscar Red Carpet. It was just impossible with all those stellar looks last night.

Ok, here’s a quick list of ladies I love but who I felt could have done better last night:

Zooey Deschanel wearing a custom green and black Prada creation. She is super quirky and off-beat, and this worked for her style, but when you’re attending the same awards show as Angelina and Charlize, you have to take yourself-and your manicure-more seriously.

Lea Michele. At least she (sort of) covered up her chest this time! But she still brought her desperate pout, and her silver, lacy Marchesa is not the direction she should be heading.

Julianne Moore. I love love love her, and I adored her emerald accessories (as a redhead, she knows what works!) but the flouncy ruffles on this black Chanel were just too much.
Julianna Marguiles. I usually adore her style, but even the turquoise accessories couldn’t save her from this eggplant Naeem Khan disaster.
What did you think of the Red Carpet? Who was your Best and Worst Dressed?
